sometime back in Jan, heres my future brother-in-law! yes my sister is getting married and thank goodness just got a call from her that she finally got a hotel to hold her wedding! PHEW!
this is a pair of tees that gx good fren got for us! its cute and it came in plastic boxes with handles but he's pretty shy about wearing the same tees out.
went china town with mum, bro and gerald to buy yusheng condiments and nian qao. the yuseng place is shifting out. an old shop, hot but nostagic. thats gerald with his liang teh, my mum made him drink that to cure his BAD SORETHOART.
before and after. YES i did cut my hair! Should have taken a back shot. its concave back. colour not obviuos here but its reddish. Neater.
Heres some dishes that i prepared for dinner twice in January. followed my Jim Thompson recipe book and tried my hands on my first recipe from it. TOMYAM GOONG! but we added instant noodles that was just too much! just the soup itself was enough cos added alot of seafood. Then cooked eggs with crab and steamed blackbean cod fish.
the top photo is taken before i cut my hair. These orchids bloomed and there were so many each stalk! these were orchids from last CNY. this year we got 3 different types and i helped mum with bro help transfered them into a large pot. i love orchids in pots!
sunday morning went home to help mum cos today is ngoh hiang day. the week before was peanut puff but by the time i went home only helped to fry the 2nd batches. But instead of starting chopping veg with aunt, mum had me to help her do the fruit cake. i was scared not becos afraid of ruining the cake... but a stupid tot that made my hair stand and really scared. I dun wana lose my mum. She's the greatest cook i ever known. but i never learn the dishes cos i wan her to be there forever making them for me, i am scared. but still the best thing that happen that day was the lesson by her on making her fruit cake. promised her that i will bring my tiffany to her next year so that she get to use it too.
After which u can see that we had lots to prep! the prawns had to be peeled, deveinedand pounded. leek washed and chopped, spring onion chopped and chestnut mashed. while aunt and mum wrapped it up, i did the orchids with bro. after which i fry the ngoh hiangs. this dish is my Paternal gradpa's signature CNY dish. my grandpa did it all on his own then and i will always sneak into the kitchen to nibble on the fresh hot from the wok brown packages. i will always get a full bowl at the end of his cooking.
After the cooking, prepared for our family gathering. Heres the reniuon dinner we had on Sunday nite. Went to Prima Revolving restuarant. sis choice a 10pax course that cost 568++ but there was only 8 of us so gx and my bro mainly had to have 2 rounds. Our 1st dish was yusheng,
sharkfins and very nice onion pancake served to go with it. They are famous for the scallop, crab eggwhite which was very tasty.
the fried garoupa with pepper and salt was nice, crispy outside and soft and sweet inside. the fish very fresh. bro who loves fish, fishing, rearing fishes, noticed that there was no bone at all, the fish fillets was prob fried separately then assembled together? simple but i think this dish need skills! nice thats most important.
Peking duck, another signiture dish, ok think the best duck eaten was in beijing. wanna bring mum there! love restuarants steam prawns but i like the m hotel better cos theirs had herby taste and more wine. but not too bad cos prawns sweet. lucky the sea cucumber was soft, looks springy but lucky soft and its served with the abalone, the duck was then shredded and fried with beansprouts and had chopped peanuts on it. This was to be eaten wrapped on a lettuce (as serena would pronounced it LETTERS, most of us pronounced it LEh-tues) leaves.
the steamed lotus rice filled us up. the dessert took awhile to come. its their signuture dish too. toffee banana. first came a bowl of water. ICED water... we were wondering... then much later came the waitress with our bananas... wanted to take foto but she stopped me say can take later if not the banana will stick to the plate... then she quickly toss the bananas into the iced water! the last few almost got stuck to the plate cos she delayed by talking to me... lucky the CARAMELISED bananas look all perfect when she put them back on the plate! althou they were in the water swimming, the banana inside was piping hot! the toffee was really sweet! best eaten with english tea! interesting dessert thou.
today morning bad day. really bad day. got fat asses dam fat knock me and errr hate it. hate the way my morning started then got cut never mind people dun appreciate... gana stabbed so many times this morning! good thing that happen was the gift from a student in my class. nice mum got me and my tcher cny pineapple tarts.
After school, was so looking forward to join my collegues from kindergarten to go buy frozen stuff! so aunty right... but was good deals! esp the scallops! bigger so much bigger than my thumbnail!
