Hong Kong Island *moments*
alot of my friends even my relatives except my family tot i been to Hong Kong before. Nope its my 1st time and gx too. so we are with a map all the time, very tourisy... many frens been there before told us where to go ... we had like 6 days in HK and 1.5days in Macau... but somehow we took it slow and we didnt cover all the places we had on our list.
24th March 2007 (Saturday)
Arriving in HK airport, we didnt like the way we got our passport stamped, the q was a snake q seems endless, slow and inefficient. Jus few days before we flew, we heard a radio news report they are ranked 2nd. The ceiling was low i felt hot and stuffy. can't really feel aircon. sadly when we got our luggage my sis luggage strap was missing. we took the airport express quite ex but its fast and comfortable. got off at hong kong station and took a cab to XM apartment. i never knew HK was actually that hilly, apartments and building all on different levels and some so near the roads and bridges. headed straight to Causeway Bay by bus. 1st stop we got dap's recommendation - krispy kreme donuts. we got a dozen. we tried one at the shop and the rest were our supper and breakfast. XM oriented us and we left by ourselves to explore.
we walked all the way to wanchai after eating noodles with loads or szechuan salted veg. I find the taste interesting but i dun really fancy it. endless walk and prob on the wrong street so we headed back to causeway bay and we tried HK "stick" snacks. dun like the fishballs, the beefballs gx had was like big and gravy burst out on his 1st bite. I loved the deep fried intestine. I dun like eating organs but this was yums. we were lucky as we bumped into the milk pudding shop that XM wanted to bring us but took a wrong turn earlier in the afternoon. Loved the cold milk pudding. round the corner found the GOD shop dap recommended. interesting. end of 1st day.
25th March 2007 (Sunday)
2nd day was dianxin breakfast @ a restaurant in a mall near XM place. lucky there was 3 of us so we can order more to try. like our Spore cha xiu bao better. then we both headed for central area, 1st stop was some shopping centre near where we got off dun recall the name but is HK art festival week, so lucky got to see about 4 artwork by salvador dali! then next was to find my favourite shopping mall in europe. H&M opened in HK like mayb 2 weeks ago and couldn't help it being excited. got 2 sweats and a spag top, gx got a belt and a tee. madonna's line was more smart-casual dressy, dun have any tees from her.
its pretty much of a food day cos we walked to find my sis favourite wantan min. we ate again in less then 2 hours. No dry all soup. theres' like 1.5 crunchy prawns in each wantan. the noodles are crunchy and thinner then spore's meekia. we had a hard time finding this shop. this is the one gx followed my sis dot on the map. lucky we found the right one. then bad news... we ran outa battery for our camera. YES we had spare batt but its not charged. took sis cam out all her 3 batts oso not charged. nite plans were all photo-taking spots. so no choice we headed bac to charge the batt. gx couldn't believe all 5 batts were out and we wasted 3 hours to and fro to central. i took the chance to change, he did the same too. the bus ride showed us the many streets of HK. the normal daily life of HKers.
we headed straight for dinner at Yung Kee. Helen & my sis recommended us to have goose and suckling pig here. we ordered 2 different types of abalone soup and their award-winning prawn dish. this restuarant according to a pg on their menu was voted 15 in the world and only chinese restaurant by forbe-(hope i got the name right). next we took the tram to the peak, saw all the "wax"stars and saw the symphony of lights at the peak. then we headed to Lan Kwai Fong. always tot its a much bigger place and really long street. It was not.
dap recommended us to try arabic but cos she didnt have the name we chose a Lebianese restaurant and pub. after sitting down, i told gx this place looked familiar. it was a setting where the movie (he's a woman, she's a man) was filmed . he was pretty sure i was right. they didnt have the apple cinnamon tea dap recommended but they had some kinda fried eggplant. we still ordered not sure if its the same as the one dap ate. lucky it was good. we ate the tomato based eggplant which didn't looked fried but more like a stew with pita bread. gx tried his 1st SHISHA. he chose apple flavour. its a water-piped smoke thing, but he say no kick, feel nothing one but still got smoke coming outa him. the top is filled with charcoal and water is in the contaniner at the bottom. with tat headed home for donut and prepared for Macau. we stayed a nite at Macau on 26th March.
after spending 1.5 days @ Macau, we headed bac to HK and we took the xiuba (HK mini bus) to meet XM at Singapore International School, thats where she teach. we then took a short walk to take a ferry to JUMBO for dinner. she gave us a treat...its expensive here. only took the soup we had and totally forgotten to take pics of rest of the dishes. next day we headed to Kimberly hotel @ kowloon side to stay for the next 3 days.
